PAT Testing is not a Statutory requirement within the Electrical Testing field. It does however form an important part of the most insurance companies Risk Assessment policies.

Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) should be considered as an essential task from a wider Health and Safety Point of View.

Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) should be considered with Risk Assessment at the forefront of any regime – i.e. A portable appliance that is used for a specific requirement and is rarely moved from one point to another could be considered as less of a risk than a Metallic Kettle which is used frequently throughout the day, on this basis it might be deemed acceptable to test one item less frequently than the other.

It is not uncommon for ‘White goods’ and Class 1 equipment to be tested annually and for IT equipment to be tested every 3 years.
